Alongside his career as an art director, Avni realised his visions for Istanbul through clubs such as Dogzstar, Dirty and Machine, and by organising all sorts of events he constantly brings novelty to the city... First of all, tell us a bit about yourself... Everything started in 1997 when I moved to Istanbul. I had studied in Manchester in 1995, but instead of going to class I was going to Hacienda. When I first came to Istanbul I studied Radio and Television for two years. Having become so bored of not being able to find a single place in Istanbul to go out, after throwing house parties with friends and playing music we were making ourselves, we decided to open our own venue. There was the Magma period, after that there wasn't really any club with much of an identity. Clubs making money from trying to be "trendy" or following a popular culture started springing up. Giray’s a fashion designer, Timuçin’s a fashion editor. Who is Goodoubets? How did it come about? GİRAY: Who is Goodoubets? First of all, we’re people who like going out – we love having fun and listening to good music… Recently though, when we’ve been going out we realised that apart from the music some of our friends play, there aren’t any too many places where we have much fun so we just said, “Well then we’ll play”. TİMUÇİN: In April 2009 we played for the first time in Lokal… We play in small, more cosy venues, places where people can meet up, chat and dance… We put together a combination of music which we listen to at home with the type of music our friends play and try to share our own style. What excites us is when a couple of our friends come up and go “Yeah!” or even “OK”, even if one or two of them are dancing it’s good enough for us. We have fun with each other anyway. Two years ago, Gilles Peterson said on Radio 1 about Trus'me's Working Night's album “If a house music album was to be made for me, this would be it”. Since then Mancunian Trus'me launched his new album last December with soulful vocalists like Amp Fiddler, Piranhahead and Paul Randolph. After Onur had pretended studying ''International Finance'' for two years, he graduated from the Visual Communication Design department at Bilgi University. Apart from his cut-out illustrated collage works, he also likes to capture blurry frames with his toy cameras. At school he was busy animating drawings frame by frame in the corner of his textbooks and it was this animating of animations that also then got him into videomaking. The story of Soaked starts off in 2003 with Balamir Nazlıca accompanied by a piano and an empty page. The essential concept was to merge lyrical poetry with romantic electronic melodies and captivating visual imagery. Lucid melodies turned into compositions which were written like today with a piano and a guitar. Simple in scale but felt as a catalysmic craving, the songs were composed passionately over time. Writing, composing and actualizing with visual imagery took several years. The core idea being set in 2007, the band name was defined as SOAKED. Once set, derived from different musical backgrounds 5 more members; Deniz Kunay (keyboards), Berrak Papuçcuoğlu (back vocals), Emrah Akar (guitar), Yiğit Özkul (bass), Hakan Ertaşoğlu (drums); joined in 2009 and Soaked as a band was set to perform with their inherent talents. Each and every one of the band members has different tastes, dreams and expectations but what binds Soaked together coherently is the desire to be in a constant state of creativity. They played at the Rock’n Coke festival last summer and these days they are working on a new EP.
