Sevil was born in 1982 in Istanbul. After 4 years of Art education at the Istanbul Anadolu School of Fine Arts, she furthered her studies at Mimar Sinan University doing Fine Art in the Zekai Ormancı studio between the years of 2000 and 2005. During these years she was into Photography and Video and in 2007 she began a Masters course at the Marmara University of Fine Arts in the Photography department. She’s still working on a thesis discussing the relationship between Photography and Fine Art. You can see her photographs here.

For the past 2 years, Sevil has been giving Illustration and Painting lessons at Atölye Onbir with highschool and university friend Erkin Gören. This year together they opened the exhibition space Mtaär in Moda, referring to it as a non-profit open art space.

In terms of exhibitions, one of her pieces on canvas was shown at the “Flight Fear / Uçuş Korkusu” exhibition at Daralan. In 2008 her video titled “I ate pasta, listening to music whilst shooting vids” was shown at the Restfest Nokia Mobile Cinema. For those of you who haven’t seen it before you should watch it here! In the same year she put together the show titled “Do Not Ask Why / Sorma Neden” with her partner Erkin from Atölye Onbir and Mtaär. Her work is currently on show at Mtaär’s “Horaley” exhibition, open for viewing until the 12th of July. Don’t miss it!

Sevil 1982 İstanbul doğumlu. İstanbul Anadolu Güzel Sanatlar Lisesi’nde 4 senelik bir resim eğitimi aldıktan sonra, 2000 – 2005 yılları arasında Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Resim Bölümü Zekai Ormancı Atölyesi’nde resim eğitimine devam etti. Aynı yıllar içinde fotoğraf ve kamerayla ilgilendi. 2007’de Marmara Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Fotoğraf Bölümü’nde yüksek lisans eğitimine başladı. Halen Fotoğraf Bölümü’nde fotoğraf sanatıyla resim sanatının ilişkisiyle ilgili bir tez çalışması içinde. Fotoğraflarına burdan bakabilirsiniz.

Son 2 yıldır, liseden ve üniversiteden arkadaşı Erkin Gören ile Atölye Onbir’de İllüstrasyon ve Serbest Resim dersleri veriyor. Bu yıl tekrar beraber Moda’da Mtaär adlı sergi alanlarını açtılar, Mtaär’ı kâr amacı gütmeyen bir açık sanat alanı olarak tanımlıyorlar.

Sergilerine gelince, Sevil birkaç karma sergide bulundu. Bunlardan biri olan Daralan’da, ‘’Flight Fear / Uçuş Korkusu’’ sergisinde bir tual resmi sergilendi. 2008’de Resfest Nokia Mobil Sinema’da “Video Çekerken Makarna Yedim, Müzik Dinledim” adlı videosu sergilendi. Daha önce izlemeyenler burdan izlesin! Aynı yıl Atölye Onbir’den ve Mtaär’dan ortağı Erkin ile Hafriyat’ta ‘’Do Not Ask Why / Sorma Neden’’ Sergisi’ni yaptılar. Şu anda 12 Temmuz’a kadar Mtaär’da ‘’Horaley’’ sergisinde resimleri sergileniyor. Kaçırmayın!
