While Derin aka Mekazoo was designing furniture and fair stands, one day he decides to start making toys.

One day, whilst designing furniture and fair stands, Derin Çiler, aka Mekazoo, decided to start making toys. He asked the Mexican Lucha Libre wrestlers for help, and started wrestling with them.

No, no, I don’t think so. If he’d done that I’d probably be writing a piece in his memory right now. Derin Çiler used the wrestlers he really was interested in as inspritation and created Robolucha. When he won a competition run by www.patchtogether.com, a website followed closely by toy designers, he also became the first person in Turkey to make a design toy. Robolucha then went on a world tour and the world then heard the footsteps of a Turk in vinyl.

Your favourite designer?
There are a lot of designers whose work I follow closely. At the moment it’s hard to pick one name but for the World War Robot series toys and illustrations I’d say Ashley Wood.

Food you can’t say no to?
The combination of köfte and potatoes.

Your favourite cartoon character?
Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy.

Peter Pan or He-man?
The question you should really be asking me here is Captain Hook or Iskeletor. I was always more interested in the bad guys. Iskeletor!!!

The first toy you bought:
A 4 inch Starhub Trexi.

The last toy you bought:
An 18 inch Gloomy Bear, even though we sometimes fight we generally try to get on well.

UNKL Brand’s 12 inch Hazmapo and Makpo.

Your figure of inspiration:
I like to put on my marroon dressing gown, pour myself a whisky and light a cigar, and with the accompaniment of some light jazz music, I like to create masterpieces. To be honest, inspiration can come anytime from anywhere. The worst is when you get an idea and then forget it before you can note it down.

The first thing you do when you get up in the morning:
Switching off the alarm and getting out of bed. Yeah, I have a really complicated life.

Derin Çiler’s Robolucha is returning from its world tour. The Roboluchas which have been mentioned by 34 different designers and a large number of special signed toys can be seen throughout the month of September at Milk Gallery.

Derin Çiler aka Mekazoo, mobilya ve fuar tasarlarken bir gün oyuncak yapmaya karar verir. Meksikalı güreşçiler olan Lucha Librelerden yardım ister ve onlarla güreşmeye başlar.

Hayır, hayır sanmıyorum. Böyle bir şey yapmış olsa şu anda onunla ilgili bir anı yazısı yazıyor olurdum sanırım. Derin Çiler, gerçekten etkilendiği güreşçilerden ilham alarak Robolucha’yı tasarlar. Oyuncak tasarımcılarının yakından takip ettiği www.patchtogether.com’un açtığı bir yarışmayı kazanınca da bir anda Türkiye’nin ilk design toy’unu yapan adam olur. Robolucha dünya turuna çıkar ve dünya Türk’ün ayak seslerini bu kez de vinyllerle duyar.

En beğendiğin tasarımcı?
İşlerini yakından takip ettiğim birçok tasarımcı var. Şu an tek isim söylemek gerçekten zor ama  yaptığı World War Robot serisi oyuncaklarıyla ve illüstrasyonlarıyla Ashley Wood açık ara önde diyebilirim.

Asla hayır diyemediğin yemek?
Köfte patates combosu.

En sevdiğin çizgi film karakteri?
Ren and Stimpy’den Stimpy.

Peter pan mi, He-man mi?
Aslında bu sorunun bana sorulan versiyonu Kaptan Hook mu, İskeletor mu olmalı. Kötüler her zaman bana daha ilgi çekici gelmiştir. İskeletor!!!

Bordo robdöşambr’ımı giyip viskimi koyarım puromu da yakarım arkadan da hafif bir jazz müzik eşliğinde eşsiz şaheserler yaratmayı severim. İşin gerçeği ise her zaman ve her yerde gelebiliyor. Bazen not edene kadar gelen fikri unutmak ise en kötüsü.

Sabah kalkınca ilk yaptığın şey:
Alarmı kapatmak yataktan çıkmak. Evet çok komplike bir hayatım var.

Derin Çiler’in Robolucha’sı çıktığı dünya turundan geri dönüyor. 34 farklı tasarımcının yeniden yorumladığı Robolucha’lar ve sınırlı sayıda üretilen özel imzalı oyuncaklar eylül ayı boyunca Milk Gallery’de görülebilir.
