Necmi graduated from Bilkent University’s Fine Arts and Architecture Faculty, he studied graphic design. He was born in 1988 in Ankara. He’ s been living there all his life and absolutley loves Ankara! He’s been drawing all his life, without really knowing what and how he draws. This exercise on paper, is a psychoanalysis to him. After creating an illustration, he loves saying something like “Today, I feel a bit like this”, “I’ve got these feeling inside”. He is very much into comics (especially Batman) (of course Batman!) and humoristic mags, and has always been passionate about Turkish movies, foreign ones, soap operas and songs he grew up with, which he thinks are equally important for people from his generation. All this made Necmi the person he is.  After a stressless year of foundation course, he got into Bilkent University. After his second year of BA he got even more into his studies… He is drawn to the imaginary side of life. He’s open to other mediums aswell such as the meaningless photography films he keeps and motion graphics he has done in the past, he get a lot of satisfaction out of working on his art. Isn’t that what matters most?

Last August Necmi left for his military service. Before he left he told us this: “I think there’s a rich art scene in Istanbul - It’s restless, louse-ridden and extraordinary. It’s lively, especially these days. It seriously excites me. If I can be a part of it, all the better. Something I see, a film I watch, something I read, a man in the street, a child, a funny story, a song especially, takes me to illustration in the most literal and serious way. That’s all there is to it…”

Necmi, Bilkent Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Tasarım ve Mimarlık Fakültesi, Grafik Tasarım bölümünü  bitirdi. 1988 Ankara doğumlu. Doğduğundan beri Ankara’da yaşıyor ve Ankara’ya bayılıyormuş! Küçüklüğünden beri bir şeyler çiziyor, ne olduğunu bilmeden, ne yaptığını bilmeden. Kağıdın başında psikanaliz peşinde. Çizdikten sonra, “Heh, bugün böyle şeyler yapmışım”, “Bunlar varmış içimde” demeyi çok seviyor. Çizgi romanlarla (özellikle Batman) (herhalde Batman!) ve mizah dergileriyle, en baştan beri tutkuyla izlediği, kuşağındaki herkes için aynı önemi teşkil ettiğini düşündüğü Türk filmleriyle, yabancı filmlerle, dizilerle ve de şarkılarla büyüdü. Hepsi onu bugünkü Necmi’ye getirdi. Stressiz geçen üniversiteye hazırlık döneminden sonra Bilkent’e girdi. 2. sınıftan sonra kendini daha da çok kaptırdı… Hayatın illüstratif, daha bir eskilenmiş kısmıyla ilgilenior. Bu bir gün olur, bir hatıra, fotoğraf ya da tasarım. Fotoğrafa kendi çektiği manasız filmlere ve motion graphics’e de meraklı ve kendi çapında bir şeyler yapmaya çalışıyor ve işlerinden keyif alıyor. En önemliside bu değilmi zaten?

Necmi Ağustos ayında askerlik görevine başladı, gitmeden bize şunu söyledi: “İstanbul’da huzursuz, bitlenmiş ve de harikulade olmakla mükellef bir sanat akımının vuku bulmakta olduğunu düşünüorum. Çok canlı, özellikle de bu aralar. Bu beni ciddi anlamda çok heyecanlandırıyor. Bir parçası olabilirsem ne mutlu bana. Gördüğüm bir şey, izlediğim bir film, okuduğum bir şey, sokaktaki bir adam, bir çocuk, anlatılan komik bir hikaye, özellikle bir şarkı beni literal ve de ciddi anlamda ilüstrasyona götürüyor. Bu kadar…”
